As cofounder and editor-owner (1984 – 1933) of The Denver Post, Frederick Gilmer Bonfils used sensational journalism and blackmail to make The Denver Post Colorado’s most feared, most read, and most profitable newspaper. After his 1933 death, his daughter Helen ran the paper, bringing it to respectability in 1946 with a new editor, Palmer Hoyt. With his millions, Frederick pursued many civic and commercial projects while Helen became a major philanthropist.
