Helen Ring Robinson was politically active in Denver in the early 20th century. During the 1908 Convention she served as the Vice Chair of the Women’s Hospitality Committee. In 1912, Robinson became the first woman elected to the Colorado State Senate. As a senator, Robinson was concerned with labor reform and worked with Margaret “Molly” Brown and Mother Jones to resolve the Ludlow conflict in 1914. Later that year she was a featured speaker at the Marble House Conference in Newport, RI. Mistaken newspaper reports in 1914 pitted Robinson against Margaret Brown in a race for Senate, when in fact Robinson intended to keep her state seat.
