      Denver's First Christmas

Denver’s first Christmas was “the most raucous of all.” Denver’s First Christmas party featured free drinks. The baby town was barely a year old on December 25, 1858 when Uncle Dick Wootton treated one and all to cups of Taos Lightening he brought up from New Mexico. This potent booze was described as tangle foot, shake knee, rot gut, and bust head.

Colorado historian Thomas Noel looks back on the drunken Christmas celebrations of Denver's founders. From Denver 7: https://www.denver7.com/news/local-news/denvers-first-christmas-was-the-most-raucous-of-all
