Chief Little Raven (aka Chief Hosa) of the Southern Arapahoe had camped on the future site of Denver for decades before he and his people were displaced by white settlers. A peace chief striving for peace, he barely escaped the Sand Creek Massacre. “That fool band of soldiers cleared out our lodges and killed our women and children,” Little Reven lamented as he was forced on to an Oklahoma reservation.
