      Who was Denver's Loudest Booster

      William Newton Byers, a tireless promoter of Colorado, founded and edited the state’s Longest lived newspaper until its 2009 death, The Rocky Mountain News. Byers everywhere puffed new mining towns to agricultural experiments, from county fairs to Native American removal. Plugging Denver as the new El Dorado he even stretched some facts such as his claim that the south Platte was navigable in the September 10, 1859, News of “boat departures.” Byers celebrated and defended the Sand Creek Massacre (which is widely believed to be the most shameful and terrible event in Colorado’s history.)
