When he died in Denver in 1917, William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, arguably the world’s most famous American, was buried atop Lookout Mountain in Golden. He had ranches in North Platte, Nebraska, and Cody, Wyoming, and both places hoped to host his final resting place – and what was destined to become a major tourist attraction. To ward off body snatchers, Buffalo Bill was buried under eleven tons of concrete reinforced with railroad track. When she died, his wife Louisa was buried atop her roaming husband to help keep him pinned down.
